You can't beat the value to performance ratio!

I am just switching to Alibre and have been using CAD since DOS days. I am pleased with the performance of the Alibre software in general. It runs fast & has great precision and produces fine output drawings ect.

I have had only one small glitch but the many different ways to call up each of the commands allows for easy work-around. My Apple mouse does not work to control panning. All other commands work fine. I can still pan via the Icon on the Toobar so all in all No Problems.

Every CAD system has a basic interface style, and every CAD designer hopes to find an interface that "clicks" with his/her design & drawing style. A lot depends on what software You trained on, and whether the new interface is sufficiently similar, or layed out logically enough that you can easilly follow it.

Bottom line is this: Anybody and his Brother can make the colmputers draw lines. Where you are going to sell software is in the operator interface. Unfortunately, I found the controlls and layout alien enough that I was unwilling to learn the system. Might work well for you, but I am thouroughly unimpressed.

I’m very pleased and satisfied with Alibre Design. It is just as advertised: easy to learn and use (compared to PRO/E) and amazingly powerful for the price. It will not do everything that PRO/E will, but the necessary core functionality is definitely there. It is user friendly and a pleasure to work with on a daily basis, and don’t let the lower price fool you, this is definitely professional level mechanical design software that will get the job done, at an affordable price.

Do be sure to get the trial version and make sure that there are no hardware compatibility issues before you buy. I had to upgrade my video card (NVIDIA Quadro) driver to the one recommended by Alibre to resolve display issues while in drawing workspaces. That was simple enough to do, it works great now: I highly recommended AD 8.2!
