Have you checked? Are you checking your designs early and often? There is no reason not to. The simulation and analysis tools for Rhino 5 keep getting better.Scan&Solve™ has always provided finite elements in Rhino without meshing. Now they are offering two additional extensions to their tools.First is SnSMesh. This version of Scan&Solve™ allows users to perform stress simulation on mesh geometry within Rhino. This version has the same functionality as the latest edition of Scan&Solve™ but works directly on closed meshes created in Rhino or imported from other applications that can export .stl, .wrl, .ply, and other mesh formats recognized by Rhino. That means you can directly analyze any part that you can 3-D scan. No need to first reverse engineer.Second is SnSScript. This scriptable version of Scan&Solve™ allows users to automate simulation processes that otherwise require user interaction. In the scriptable version, most of the functionality of the original Scan&Solve™ plug-in is exposed for calls from RhinoScript, including simulation setup, simulation computation, and solution visualization and querying.Download SnSMesh or SnSScript here [more...] May 6, 13 Rhino News, etc. Blog AEC Technology Symposium NYC May 20-21The Advanced Computational Modeling Group of Thornton Tomasetti is pleased to host a two day conference that brings together technology leaders from the Architecture, Engineering and Construction industry.May 20 8:30AM-5PMPRESENTATIONSCENTER FOR ARCHITECTURE536 LAGUARDIA PLACEMay 20 6PM-8PMRECEPTIONTRESPA DESIGN CENTRE62 GREENE STREETMay 21 9AM-6PMWORKSHOPSTHORNTON TOMASETTI51 MADISON AVENUEFor more information, visit http://www.thorntontomasetti.com/blog/acmOr, e-mail [more...] May 2, 13 Rhino News, etc. Blog Godzilla: Robots with Rhino and GrasshopperAs many of you know Rhino has played nice with robots for many years. Varying examples will show that the efficiency of structures depends largely on the flow of forces within the structure. Possible optimization strategies will be discussed in the light of material saving and their impact on architectural form. This course will introduce you to digital analysis and optimization tools. You will learn to deal with three-dimensional parametric software (Rhino, Grasshopper, Sofistik, Karamba, GeometryGym, Kangaroo). Finally, the knowledge acquired will be applied to designing a pedestrian bridge or a slender tower.Participants will be able to recognize the effects of forces as design parameters. They will recognize the potential of building geometry in the context of architecture and resource-efficient designs.Information» Where: Bauhaus-Universität, Weimar, Germany» Application deadline: 15 May» Course duration: 18 - 30 August» Course language: English» Target Groups: Master students, graduates, doctoral candidates and young professionals» Requirements: Basic knowledge of 3D parametric software is recommended» Course fee: 490 € (100 € discount for students and alumni, 290 € discount for students of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar)Lecturers» Prof. Dr.-Ing. It works with Rhino 4 and Rhino 5 (both 32- and 64-bit). You can download it here. Improvements include:Symmetry detection and symmetric operations are more reliable and usually faster. Embedding radial/axial symmetries in the same model in particular is a lot more reliable. Exact insertion has been completely rewritten. It is much more reliable on complex T-Spline surfaces, and exact insertion is now supported on symmetric meshes (i.e. you won’t lose symmetry).Rewrote the code for standardizing meshes, which also affects surface generation. There were certain complex arrangements of T-points and star-points which caused crashes in the past; we expect these to work correctly now. In a few cases, we are aware of models that worked in version 3.2 of the Rhino plugin, but not in 3.3. If you had a model like this, we expect it to work again in this version. There have been many changes to improve performance. Notably, tsMatch is a lot faster, and the G1 caps are slightly faster. There were some specific cases where undoing a weld between two surfaces would take a very long time to complete; this should now be acceptably fast. Many obscure crash bugs were fixed [more...] Nov 28, 12 Rhino News, etc. Blog Rhino 5 AnnouncedThe world's most versatile 3-D modeler now handles bigger projects, faster, with more than 2,000 enhancements.Rhino 5 is released and available at local dealers worldwide.Check out the new Rhino web site [more...] |
